Artist Commissions
Program Type: Biennial artist commissioning project
Overview: Afro Charities invites contemporary artists to explore the AFRO Archives and supports their research and artistic production. Selected artists receive generous research, production, and materials stipends to conduct original research in the AFRO News Archives and produce new artwork inspired by their findings. Artists' work ultimately debuts in a public exhibition.
Duration: 14 months per commission
Geographic Scope: Maryland-based artists (based on 2024/2025 cohort)
Funding Support: Supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Ruth Foundation for the Arts
