Summary

The Arthritis National Research Foundation supports early career researchers in their quest to advance understanding and treatment of arthritis and related autoimmune diseases. Annually, the foundation grants 10 to 20 awards of $125,000 each for two years. Focus areas include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and more. Eligible investigators must hold an M.D. or Ph.D., be affiliated with a U.S. nonprofit research institution, and commit significant research time. Applications from prior grant recipients or those with certain NIH grants are ineligible.

Overview

The Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) is dedicated to funding highly qualified, early career investigators associated with major research institutes, universities and hospitals throughout the United States who are seeking to discover new knowledge for the prevention, treatment and cure of arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Areas of Focus A variety of arthritis grants for scientists and researchers working on arthritis and related autoimmune diseases are awarded each year. ANRF awards 10 – 20 grants annually at $125,000 per year for two years. Eligibility

Basic EligibilityInvestigators must possess either a M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree or equivalent.Applicants must be affiliated with, and complete all grant-funded research, at a qualified U.S. nonprofit research institution.Applicants are not required to be U.S. citizens.Project EligibilityClinical and basic studies will be considered. Clinical studies should have a translational component that helps reveal the underlying mechanisms or response to therapy.Awardees must commit a minimum of 50% protected research time to total research activities.

Ineligibility

Applications that list a Co-PI will not be accepted.Applicants may not apply for funding if they have already received a grant from ANRF.Applicant may not have (or ever had) an NIH R01 grant or equivalent. “or equivalent” is defined as receipt of an NIH K08, DOD or NSF grant plus other support totaling more than $300,000 per year.Do not apply if you’ve had an NIH R01 or equivalent support.Post-doctoral researchers and graduate students “to be named” will not be funded.Senior personnel (considered Associate Professor level or above) and mentors will not be funded.Overhead or indirect costs will not be funded.
