    Objectives

    To advance programs for:
  • Preventative medicine, husbandry, and scientific research in veterinary medicine dealing with reptiles and amphibians
  • Conservation and humane treatment of all reptilian and amphibian species through education, captive breeding, and preservation of reptilian and amphibian habitats

Award Details

Maximum Award: $5,000 Project Duration: 12-18 months expected

Funding Focus

The ARAV Conservation & Research Committee funds clinically-oriented and/or conservation research projects involving reptiles and/or amphibians.

    Priority Areas

  • Clinically-oriented proposals
  • Conservation-based proposals
  • Proposals submitted by ARAV members (given priority)

    Evaluation Criteria

    Proposals will be evaluated based on:
  • Clinical significance
  • Conservation relevance
  • Feasibility of proposal
  • Research methodology

    Requirements

  • Research should be completed in 12-18 months
  • Recipients must either present results at the ARAV annual conference OR publish in the Journal of Herpetological Medicine and Surgery
  • Final determination of number and amounts of awards made by ARAV Executive Committee based on Conservation and Research Committee recommendations

The highest-rated research and conservation grant proposal each year is designated the "Kevin Wright Memorial Fund award winner" and receives additional funds donated in honor of Dr. Kevin Wright's legacy.
