APS Foundation Scholarships

Overview: The Aurora Public Schools Foundation stewards a robust student scholarship program created through the generosity of individuals, families and organizations throughout the community. In 2017, the foundation provided more than $59,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors.

Eligibility: Aurora Public Schools graduating seniors

Types of Scholarships: The foundation offers two types of scholarships:

  • Donor-Managed Scholarships - Created when a contribution is given to the foundation with intent to be held as a separate advised fund

  • APS Foundation Managed Scholarships - Foundation handles administration and distribution

  • The Myrtle Replogle Travis and Russell Romayne Travis Memorial Scholarship

  • Lore H. Wiggins Scholarship

  • AJ Boik Memorial Scholarship
  • Zack Golditch Opportunity Scholarship - Specific scholarship established for Aurora Public Schools graduating student-athletes with the following criteria:

  • Participated in athletics for at least three seasons

  • First-generation college student

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Active in community through volunteerism, community service, or school involvement

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Award: $10,000 ($2,500 per year over four years)
  • Foundation Responsibilities:

  • Distribute scholarship awards directly to educational institution on behalf of recipient

  • Provide semi-annual reports to grantor

  • Acknowledge and recognize all contributions

  • Invest funds according to Board-approved investment policies

  • For APS Foundation Managed Scholarships: develop applications, market scholarships, collect applications, forward to grantor for review

    Application Process

    For APS Foundation Managed Scholarships:

  • Scholarship applications are developed and promoted by the foundation

  • Completed applications are collected and forwarded to grantor for review

  • Award winners are notified by the foundation

  • Applications and award information are posted on the APS Foundation website
  • For Donor-Managed Scholarships:

  • Application process determined by donor with foundation assistance

  • May include essay submissions

  • May require letters of recommendation

  • Selection committee named by donor
  • Zack Golditch Opportunity Scholarship Application:

  • Essay requirement (example: writing about how applicant builds team cohesiveness)

  • Letters of recommendation (preferably from coaches)

  • School counselor can recommend applicants
