AO North America: VET Preceptorships Program Grant

The AO North America VET Preceptorships Program offers surgical residents from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons the chance to enhance their skills in Veterinary Trauma and Orthopedics through a structured training experience. Participants can receive up to four weeks of advanced training in AO techniques at designated surgical centers, with funding available for housing and travel expenses, totaling up to $2,750. This initiative aims to foster professional development and improve patient care outcomes.

Our mission and purpose
As a region within the AO, AO North America's mission is to further the goals of the AO Foundation in North America by promoting excellence in patient care and outcomes in trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.
AO North America's purpose is to be a validated, credible resource for the continuous professional development of surgeons.
The AO VET North America Preceptor Program provides an opportunity for surgical residents of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) who are interested in Veterinary Trauma and/or Veterinary orthopedics, to visit a host surgical center and receive up to four additional weeks of training and experiences in AO techniques. In particular, the Preceptor Program will familiarize the surgical resident with indications, planning, techniques and pitfalls of osteosynthesis as judged by AO experts.

• Preceptorships are placed on a first come, first serve basis as funding allows. Maximum one preceptorship per year, per person may be approved.

Funding
The program will be two to four weeks. The stipend provided may be applied toward cost of housing and travel: $1,750 for the first two weeks and $500 each additional week with a maximum of $2,750.

Eligibility

Must be currently engaged in an ACVS Registered Residency Training Program in North AmericaSuccessfully completed Phase 1 Surgical Knowledge ExaminationNorth American surgery residents interested in Veterinary trauma and Veterinary orthopedicsMust be an AO VET member in good standing
Must have participated in an AO Principles of Fracture Management course and/or additionally the Advanced Fracture Management course
