Overview: Annual patriotic essay competition sponsored by the Connecticut Elks Association through its Americanism Committee, part of the national Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks program.

Geographic Scope: Connecticut and nationwide (state-level participants compete in national competition)

Grade Levels: 5th through 8th grade (Grades 5-8)

Focus Areas:

American patriotism

Youth appreciation for country's heritage

Patriotic values and citizenship

Theme: Changes annually (example: "What is your American Dream?")

Program Goals:

Foster youth's appreciation and respect for patriotism

Give school children opportunity to express pride in America
