UWBA Emergency Food and Shelter Program

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program was created by Congress in 1983 to help meet the needs of hungry and homeless people throughout the United States and its territories. Money allocated through this program to Bay Area organizations is distributed through UWBA. We work tirelessly to ensure that our eight Bay Area counties continue to receive the appropriate level of funding through EFSP. The funds are used to help struggling Bay Area residents access food, shelter, rent or mortgage assistance, and help with bills and utilities.

Funding Availability

The Alameda County Emergency Food and Shelter Program Local Board has received $702,388 in funding for Phase 42 under the McKinney-Vento Homelessness Assistance Act.

These are federal funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security/ Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP). The CFDA number is 97.024.

The grant period for these funds is October 1, 2023 - December 31, 2025 (partially concurrent with previous Phases 40 and 41). Agencies may bill eligible costs anytime during the grant period, but expenses must be kept separately for each Phase of funding,

if awarded funding from multiple phases. The Local Board recommends starting your Phase 42 grant period on January 1, 2025, to avoid all overlap with previous awards.
