Mission Of The Ahearn Foundation The Ahearn Foundation maintains and improves the quality of life for the citizens of Binghamton and Broome County. While health and education needs have traditionally been given priority, the Foundation also supports cultural and environmental projects which benefit a broad number of residents within the county. Ahearn Foundation Grant In 1979, as he approached retirement as the Chairman of the Board of Universal Instruments Corporation, J. Donald Ahearn, and wife Irma, thought that it was time to give something back to the community of Binghamton and Broome County. A community in which they were raised and, in turn, they had raised their family. Prior to that time, as President and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Instruments, he had encouraged the development of a charitable Foundation at the company. Upon his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Ahearn decided to continue their philanthropic interest in the community, in part by establishing a family foundation. The Ahearn Foundation is the legacy that J. Donald and Irma M. Ahearn have established for the community that they so loved. The Ahearn Foundation maintains and improves the quality of life for the citizens of Binghamton and Broome County.
