ACM Mellon Academic Leadership Fellows Program

Award Amount: $1,500,000 (total grant to ACM)

Duration: Three-year initiative

Geographic Scope: ACM member colleges (14 liberal arts institutions in the Midwest)

Expanding demographics of academic administration

Developing leaders with commitment to diversity and inclusive equity

Faculty leadership development in humanities disciplines

Eligibility

• Applicants: Tenured faculty in humanities disciplines
• Requirement: Demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusive equity on campus
• Position: Faculty appointed as Fellows for two-year terms
• Number of positions: Combined total of 10 Fellows across ACM colleges

Fellow Support

• 50% course reduction during fellowship
• Stipend to compensate for fellowship work
• Mentorship from two experienced leaders (one on home campus, one external)
• Cohort-based leadership development workshops and convenings
• Each Fellow will lead portfolio of responsibilities or discrete institutional project

Background

• Mellon Foundation has supported ACM for over 30 years
• This grant is part of nearly $26.5 million in collaborative project funding from Mellon since 1987
• Previous Mellon-funded projects focused on: academic pathways for underrepresented students, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, innovative pedagogies, instructional technology, international collaboration

Selection Process

• Call for proposals sent to ACM college presidents and provosts/deans
• Fellows selected in March 2023
• Mid-November timeline for initial proposal distribution
