AA Van Elslander Foundation Grant Program

Geographic Scope: Michigan (organizations must be located within Michigan and benefit its communities)

Eligibility:

  • Non-profit organizations qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code

  • Public charities only (not private foundations)

  • Must be located within Michigan and benefit Michigan communities

  • Must not discriminate based on age, creed, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation

  • Organizations must be entrepreneurial-minded and seek self-sustainability (preferred)

  • Grassroots non-profits with founder personal investment preferred

    • Areas of Focus:

  • Children

  • Health and human services

  • Special focus areas: Addiction, cognitive & developmental disabilities, and eyesight

    • What the Foundation Does NOT Fund:

  • Capital projects (unless initiated by the Foundation)

  • Fundraising events or conferences

  • Grants to individuals

  • K-12 schools, secondary schools, or universities

  • Lobbying activities or political campaigns

  • Religious purposes (though faith-based organizations may be considered if the Foundation initiates)

    Grant Application Process

    Timeline:
    1. September 1-30: Grant inquiry submission window (annual)
    - Submit initial inquiry online through foundation website
    - If September 30 falls on Saturday/Sunday, inquiries accepted through 5:00 pm the following Monday

    2. October 31: Qualifying organizations invited to submit full grant applications

    3. November 30: Grant notifications made

    4. December 31: Grants issued

    Submission Requirements:

  • All inquiries must be made online through the website

  • Phone inquiries are NOT accepted

  • Organizations must review eligibility requirements before applying

    • Post-Grant Requirements:

  • Grant reporting required on timeline specified in grant letter

  • Grantees must report on results and progress

  • Grant reporting is an important part of the Foundation's process

    • Current Status: The annual inquiry window for 2026 has not yet opened. Inquiries accepted September 1-30 annually.
