The A.V. Hunter Trust awards general operating grants, which provide organizations with the flexibility to meet the specific needs of those they serve. We support qualifying 501(c)(3) Colorado nonprofit organizations that offer direct services to individuals living in Colorado. The current focus of the Trust is to help small organizations – with annual operating budgets of less than $1 million – in communities that are rural or underserved. Funding Priorities We exclusively support organizations offering direct services to individuals and families. To be eligible for a first-year $10,000 grant, your organization must provide services within one or more of the following funding priorities: People in Financial Hardship or CrisisYouthAging AdultsIndividuals with Disabilities First-year grants are up to $10,000. Subsequent grants are often in the $10,000 to $20,000 range but vary based on the size and scope of the organization.

Your organization must also meet all the following requirements:Operated as an independent 501(c)(3) for at least three full yearsAnnual operating budget of less than $1 millionOur current focus is to help small organizations in rural or underserved communitiesFinancially stableTo demonstrate financial stability, organizations should not have an operating deficit in their most recent fiscal year.Located in ColoradoServe a broad range of individualsYour request is for general operating fundingWe fund organizations located within Colorado that provide services in the state. Smaller organizations located in rural Colorado are especially encouraged to apply.

Ineligibility

Organizations such as K-12 schools, libraries, churches, and higher education institutions are unfortunately not eligible for funding.If your organization’s annual operating budget exceeds $1 million, you are unlikely to be considered for first-time funding.​​Organizations should not have an operating deficit in their most recent fiscal year.To ensure support for as many individuals as possible, the Trust may not fund organizations that serve one specific group of individuals or those that address one specific disease.Grant requests for capital campaigns, endowments, scholarship aid, fundraising events, sponsorships, projects, or program support are not eligible.Currently, the A.V. Hunter Trust does not award multi-year grants. After receiving first-time funding, grantees are invited to apply each year, as long as they continue to meet the eligibility requirements and priorities of the Trust.Requests from multi-state, national or international organizations are not considered.
