Background: The fund was established in memory of A. Lamar Matthews Jr., a renowned litigator and passionate advocate for diversity in the legal profession. Lamar was General Counsel to Governor Bob Graham, led the Young Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar, served on the Board of Governors and Board of Bar Examiners for the Florida Bar, and was selected as one of 10 "Legal Legends" in 2014. He was deeply committed to mentoring and supporting women and other minoritized groups pursuing legal careers. He passed away on March 4, 2022.
