Overview

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal discretionary grant program designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. GEAR UP awards grants at the state level to achieve the following objectives: Objective 1: Increase the academic performance and preparation for post secondary education of participating students;Objective 2: Increase the rate of high school graduation and participation in post secondary education of participating students; andObjective 3: Increase the educational expectations for participating students and family knowledge of post secondary education options, preparation and financing. As a state grant recipient, TX GEAR UP seeks to achieve these objectives through a coordinated approach of innovative strategies, outlined below. Core to the vision of Texas GEAR UP is ensuring the scalability and sustainability of programmatic interventions, to foster a long-term exponential impact across Texas.
