Yarg Foundation

Yarg’s mission is “to promote social equity by supporting Oregon communities to effectively create, steward and adapt the systems that shape our lives.” Its vision is an Oregon and beyond where everyone can safely live in a healthy environment, free from violence, and have economic security.

Its stated focus areas are Justice Reform, Healthy Families, Civic Engagement, and Climate Change. The Justice Reform Initiative supports policy organizations and direct-service programs working to interrupt mass incarceration and support people affected by the criminal legal system. Its areas include public defender system reform, Measure 11 reform, support for children affected by familial incarceration, youth intervention, and prison programs.

The Healthy Families Initiative focuses on comprehensive health education and access, parenting education, and programs supporting children’s healthy relationships and wellbeing. Its stated geographic priorities have included Lane County, South Lane County, and the Fern Ridge School District area.

Grantees’ own descriptions illustrate the range of organizations supported. Partnership for Safety and Justice says it advances safety, accountability, and healing through approaches that prioritize care over punishment. Coalition of Communities of Color describes itself as an alliance of culturally specific, community-based organizations working to improve outcomes for communities of color through policy analysis. African Refugee Immigrant Organization says it promotes the economic and social health and wellbeing of African immigrants and refugees in Oregon. Friends of the Children–Lane County describes its work as empowering youth facing significant obstacles through long-term professional mentoring.
