Mission & Focus Areas
The Foundation's work is guided by a commitment to supporting research aimed at improving outcomes for the nation's children and youth. Rather than operating from preconceptions, the Foundation begins with questions and focuses on long-term, fundamental challenges facing young people.
The Foundation currently supports research in two distinct focus areas:
Reducing Inequality in Youth Outcomes The Foundation recognizes that inequality by race, economic standing, and immigrant origin status is pervasive across multiple domains including education, child welfare, mental health, and justice. The Foundation supports descriptive studies that clarify mechanisms for reducing inequality, as well as intervention studies that improve the measurement of inequality in ways that enhance the work of researchers, practitioners, and policy makers.
Improving the Use of Research Evidence in Decisions Affecting Young People This focus area seeks to build theory and empirical evidence on ways to strengthen connections between research evidence, decision making, and youth outcomes.
