Sills Family Foundation

The foundation’s mission is to ensure that marginalized families have the tools and support they need to live up to their highest promise. Its four program areas are comprehensive services for families in crisis, support to underserved communities, environmental justice, and arts and culture.

Its programs include support for families affected by incarceration, early education, efforts to reduce neighborhood violence, and work to reduce contaminants that harm developing embryos, fetuses, and infants. The foundation also supports community-based arts and culture programs tied to social justice ideals. It says its investments are intended to support passionate leaders and offer potential for sustained, systemic change.

Examples of the kinds of organizations it has supported include the Boston Foundation, whose stated mission is to expand opportunities, improve lives, and strengthen Greater Boston communities; UPROSE, which says it educates communities about the environment and conducts youth development programs; Our Children’s Trust, which says it works with young people to secure rights to life and a livable climate; and Westhab, which says it provides affordable housing and services to homeless and low-income individuals and families.
