Peggy and Jack Baskin Foundation

The foundation’s mission is “to center the margin, creating and supporting strategies to reach gender and racial equity and justice.” Its funding priorities include reproductive rights and justice; legal advocacy for immigrant women; feminist, gender, and women’s studies; the Activist Fund; critical race theory; girls in engineering; women re-entering the workforce; support for survivors of relationship abuse; Indigenous women and girls; environmental gender justice; and farming initiatives focused on gender and racial justice.

The foundation funds nonprofit organizations whose work aligns with both gender and racial equity and justice. It prefers organizations where women and gender-expansive people of color are primary decision-makers, and organizations with gender-equitable personnel policies. It generally considers 501(c)(3) organizations and occasionally 501(c)(4) organizations. It does not fund individuals except through its Scholarship Program, scientific or medical research, religious entities, sponsorships, candidates, or endowments.

Examples of grantees’ work include If/When/How, which says it works to transform law and policy through advocacy, support, and organizing so people can determine if, when, and how to create and sustain families. Black Women for Wellness describes its work as enhancing the health and well-being of African American and Black women and girls. Cabrillo College Foundation says it provides student scholarships, emergency financial support, mentoring, and support for youth attending college and for academic programs and facilities.
