Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Washington, DC, NFHA is a 501(c)(3) public charity that leads the fair housing movement through comprehensive civil rights advocacy and enforcement efforts.

Mission Statement: The National Fair Housing Alliance leads the fair housing movement. NFHA works to eliminate housing discrimination and ensure equitable housing opportunities for all people and communities through its education and outreach, member services, public policy, advocacy, housing and community development, tech equity, enforcement, and consulting and compliance programs.
Primary Program Areas:
Education & Outreach: Informs consumers about their rights and how to recognize and report housing discrimination. Teaches housing providers about their legal obligations and benefits of expanding fair housing choice. Includes print products, brochures, posters, social media marketing, and television and radio public service announcements distributed nationally. NFHA has created hundreds of public service announcements covering all protected classes under federal law, developed fair housing materials in nine languages, achieved over 5 billion impressions, and received over $170 million in donated media.

NFHA filed a federal housing discrimination lawsuit against Fannie Mae in December 2016, alleging systematic failure to maintain foreclosed properties in African American and Latino neighborhoods to the same standard as properties in white neighborhoods.
