Overview

Youth Vision Program

Overview: Among Florida's most comprehensive vision programs, currently serving Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties. Ensures early detection of vision issues in children, providing screening, eye examinations, and glasses dispensation with referrals for further care as needed.

Geographic Scope: Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties, Florida

Target Population: Children ages 5-17 years

Services Provided:

  • Free vision screenings using gold-standard pediatric technology (Rebion BLINQ screener and Welch Allyn SPOT autorefractor)

  • Abbreviated eye examinations by optometrists at no cost

  • Custom eyeglass frames and lenses tailored to prescription

  • Referrals to pediatric eye care professionals for serious conditions

  • Follow-up care
  • Program Components:

  • Mobile Vision Clinic (MVC) operated by Glazer Vision Foundation - brings doctors, eye care specialists, prescription lens lab, and eyeglass frame selection to schools and communities throughout Tampa Bay

  • MVC primarily serves Title I elementary schools

  • Clinic calendar available for scheduling free vision screenings

    How to Apply

    How to Access Services

    1. Schedule a Free Vision Screening:
    - View the Clinic Calendar on the LWVI website
    - Secure a spot for your child at available mobile clinic or partner location sessions
    - Sessions held at various locations across Tampa Bay

    2. Eye Examination (if screening indicates need):
    - LWVI will schedule abbreviated eye examination at clinic near you
    - Conducted by optometrists at no cost
    - Sign up through clinic calendar for upcoming sessions

    3. Glasses and Follow-Up Care (if needed):
    - Selection of eyeglass frames with custom lenses tailored to prescription
    - Serious conditions referred to pediatric eye care professionals
    - For assistance, contact VHP@LWVI.org

    4. Community Resources:
    - Resources available for caregivers, educators, and eye care professionals
    - Materials and workshops to support vision care
