Summary
The Youth Fund: Service-Learning Grants offer financial support to K-12 teachers in Lorain County for innovative Service Learning projects linking community service with educational curricula. These grants, funded by the Community Foundation of Lorain County, aim to enhance student learning while fostering social responsibility through projects that address local needs. The initiative encourages young people to engage in philanthropy and community improvement, making a tangible impact in their neighborhoods.Overview
Service Learning Grants are available to Lorain County teachers grades K-12. Grants will be awarded for Service Learning projects to be completed in the current academic year, September– June. “Service Learning” links community service (e.g. collecting food for the needy) to curriculum areas (e.g. developing math skills, studying nutritional standards, researching social problems and impact of poverty). These Service Learning grants are made possible through the Youth Fund of the Community Foundation of Lorain County. Created in 1980, the Community Foundation continues to make grants from over 400 endowment funds to non-profit organizations serving Lorain County. The Youth Fund (YF) was begun in 1998 to encourage philanthropy among young people. The YF Advisory Committee of students, grades 8-12, represents the diverse population of Lorain County and works with foundation staff to learn about community resources and how youth can make a difference.Eligibility
