William C. Becker Lawyers' Fund

Overview: The William C. Becker Lawyers Fund of the Akron Bar Foundation provides financial assistance to lawyers and members of their immediate families who, because of age, illness or other circumstances find themselves in financial distress.

Purpose: The Fund seeks to ensure that its recipients have adequate housing, food, and medical care to the best of the Fund's abilities.

Types of Assistance:

Grants

Loans without interest or security

Paying advances to immediate family members

After death, advancing money to families, including the cost of burial

History: The Fund was established in 2006 with a donation from Professor Becker.

Administration: The Fund is administered by a committee of eight members of the Akron Bar Association, including the presidents of the Akron Bar Foundation and the Akron Bar Association.

Organization Status: The Akron Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and welcomes all donations made to the Becker Fund.

Confidentiality: The entire application process is strictly confidential.

Lawyers and members of their immediate families

Must be experiencing financial distress due to age, illness, or other circumstances
