NOTE: Submissions are open all year long January 1 - December 31. Theatre Bay Area Theatre Bay Area (TBA) is a nonprofit arts service organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the theatre community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its mission is to unite, promote, and support theatre artists and organizations, grounded in the belief that the performing arts are essential to a healthy and democratic society. TBA envisions a vibrant, inclusive cultural ecosystem where artists have the resources and opportunities to thrive and where communities have broad access to the arts. Its funding priorities focus on supporting individual theatremakers and small theatre companies through grants that enable new work development, performances, career advancement, and organizational capacity building, with a strong emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion and prioritizing artists historically underrepresented in traditional funding systems. Will Glickman Award The Will Glickman Award, administered by Theatre Bay Area, recognizes excellence in playwriting by honoring the best new play that premieres in the San Francisco Bay Area each year. Established in 1984 and named after playwright and screenwriter Will Glickman, the award is selected by a panel of leading Bay Area theatre critics and celebrates outstanding original works that contribute to the region’s vibrant theatre community. The award is presented to the playwright, highlighting artistic achievement and encouraging the development and production of new plays.

Eligibility

Each calendar year, the Will Glickman Award recognizes a a full-length, fully produced world premiere play, produced by a Bay Area theatre organization. The Will Glickman award goes to the playwright, and the producing company is recognized with the Horty Glickman Prize.
