Wild Blue Dogs Cancer Treatment Grant
Organization: Wild Blue Dogs (CA, US)
Purpose: Provides financial assistance for cancer treatment for dogs whose owners lack the financial resources to afford treatment.
- Eligible regions: California and immediately adjoining communities only
Geographic Scope
- Dog must be diagnosed with cancer
- Owner must demonstrate financial need and inability to afford cancer treatment
- Owner must provide: - Copy of 2 recent bank statements - Copy of previous year's tax return statement - (Copies reviewed and destroyed after evaluation)
- Dogs trained to perform work or tasks for people with disabilities receive priority
- Owner must agree to treatment course mutually decided by Wild Blue Dogs and attending oncologist/veterinarian
- Owner must be willing to provide volunteer participation with Wild Blue Dogs or CLEAR events
- Owner must sign release permitting use of patient's story and images for promotional purposes (no private/financial information disclosed)
Eligibility Criteria
- Priority given to patients with best prognosis with treatment versus without treatment
- Priority given to dogs trained for service/disability assistance work
Priority Considerations
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- Laser treatment
- Surgery and related surgical costs
- Medications for symptom treatment, side effects, and pain management
- Emergency euthanasia costs (for dogs already receiving grant, sudden emergency situations only)
What is Covered
- Unexpected side effects and new conditions
- Other emergency services (non-euthanasia)
What is NOT Covered
- Cancer treatments and surgeries must take place in facility selected by Wild Blue Dogs
- Only specified facilities with explicit written authorization from Wild Blue Dogs will receive payment
- Wild Blue Dogs reserves right to select alternative veterinarians/facilities if initial location is impractical
Treatment Facilities
- Minimum of two Wild Blue Dogs Board/Advisory Members review applications
- All board decisions are final
- Names of decision-making board members not released outside Board of Directors
- Applicants assigned patient identification number for unbiased selection
- Both owner and veterinarian notified via email of committee decision
Selection Process
- Wild Blue Dogs does not guarantee outcome or efficacy of treatments
- Owners must accept all risks associated with cancer treatment and veterinary care
- Owners must be in agreement with treatment course
