Overview

The Grassroots Grant invests in grassroots, early-stage or severely under-resourced social change efforts with annual budgets under $500,000. It is an unrestricted grant of $10,000 per year for two years, designed to back visionary, community-centered ideas. Two grantees are selected each year; a Washington Women's Foundation member committee evaluates applications and PopUp event attendees select the grantees.

Organizations must be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) or 7871, or fiscally sponsored by a tax-exempt organization, and must operate programs or provide services within Washington State.

How to Apply

Apply through the JustFund common application and answer the three additional questions added by the Foundation. The deadline is the first Wednesday in September each year, and the application opens six weeks before the deadline. Awards are announced at the PopUp event around the second Wednesday in December. The 2026 round is closed.
