Mission The Office of Planning (OP) is tasked with planning for the long-term growth of the District of Columbia, to help ensure it reflects our values of an inclusive and vibrant city. We help the District work toward a positive future in which all District residents can thrive, regardless of income, race, age, or background. OP guides development in the District of Columbia’s distinctive neighborhoods by engaging stakeholders and residents, performing research and analysis, serving as the steward of our historic resources, and publishing various planning documents, including the Comprehensive Plan. Ward 7 Public Space Activation Grant The DC Office of Planning (OP) is soliciting grant applications from qualified organizations to help drive commercial corridor vibrancy in Ward 7 through public space activation and beautification. OP seeks to partner with organizations experienced in enlivening public spaces, such as through permanent or temporary public art, public seating, shade structures, and/or community events that draw foot traffic and support the local economy. The Ward 7 Public Space Activation Grant will fund the design and fabrication of art installations and murals; the permitting and acquisition of furniture to enhance the pedestrian experience; the acquisition of materials and equipment for community events; and the development and application of tools to measure the grant program’s impact on creating vibrant public spaces and supporting local businesses.Eligibility

Organizations applying for this grant should possess at least one of the following:Experience hosting and promoting events in public space, including acquiring necessary permits and coordinating rentals such as performance stages, seating, audiovisual equipment, and barriers.Experience completing installations of public space enhancements such as public artworks, seating, shade structures, playable art, lighting, and wayfinding.Experience preparing and submitting applications for public space activation, including furniture and public art installations.Experience documenting and tracking the positive impact of public space activations on pedestrian foot traffic and support for local businesses.Organizations that meet the following eligibility requirements may apply:Is licensed as a business in good standing with the District of Columbia’s Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection;Has a location in the District of Columbia through which it provides services; andCan provide a “Clean Hands” certificate to verify it is in good financial standing with the Government of the District of Columbia and meet certain insurance requirements.Focus Areas & Funding Uses
