Overview:
The Everglades Foundation has established its first named visiting scholar position in economics, made possible by an endowment gift from Board Member Dr. Sadek Wahba, a globally recognized leader in infrastructure investment and economic policy.
- Support visiting economists whose work deepens understanding of the economic value and impact of America's Everglades
- Build on the Foundation's growing body of economic research supporting Everglades restoration
- Quantify the economic and ecological value of America's Everglades
- Help inform policy, investment, and long-term restoration strategy
Program Objectives
- Work in residence alongside the Foundation's team of Ph.D. scientists
- Collaborate closely with science team on research projects
- Advance research strengthening measurable links between the Greater Everglades ecosystem and South Florida's economy
- Conduct data-driven research on Everglades' economic value
Scholar Responsibilities
Context
This initiative builds on the Foundation's 2025 economic analysis (in collaboration with Earth Economics) that values the Everglades as a $1 trillion asset to the state of Florida. The Wahba Visiting Scholar position is the first in a series of scholar appointments designed to enhance the Foundation's mission-driven work through interdisciplinary collaboration and high-impact research.Strategic Alignment
