Volcano Adventure Camp Youth Camping Grant

Program Description

Grants provide funding for youth organizations and schools to bring groups to Volcano Adventure Camp at Lassen Volcanic National Park for week-long camping experiences. The camp opened in 2016 and is specifically designed to accommodate school and youth groups.

    Eligibility

  • Eligible Applicants:
  • - Nonprofit organizations assisting underserved youth - Public schools - Organizations helping needy or at-risk youth - Groups with for-profit status may require a non-profit fiscal sponsor - Minimum group size: 6 people - Maximum group size: 80 people

Award Details

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 per group

What Grants Cover:

  • Park admission (waived)

  • Campground fees (waived)

  • Camping and hiking equipment

  • Tents and sleeping bags

  • Hiking gear and utensils

  • Water bottles

  • Food (groups must prepare their own)

  • Transportation
    • Camp Facilities & Activities

      Facilities:
    • Dormitory-style tent cabins
    • Picnic pavilions
    • Showers
    • Vault toilets
    • Running water

    Activities & Learning:

  • Ranger-led talks, hikes, and activities

  • Group-led talks and programs

  • Exploration of park trails

  • Education on topics including:

  • - Volcanology
    - Glaciation
    - Astrobiology
    - Fire ecology
    - Climate science
  • Service projects

  • Team-building and leadership development

    Background

    For over 20 years, the Lassen Park Foundation has funded camping trips for over 2,000 young people. The foundation aims to provide outdoor education and environmental learning as a catalyst for change in the lives of at-risk and underserved youth, fostering stewardship and respect for public lands.

    Note on Reservations: Groups that do not require grants may apply for reservations through a separate Reservation Application available beginning in May each year. Reservations must be submitted online at least 30 days in advance of requested trip dates.
