  • Focus: Honors Vida Blue's exemplary baseball career and extensive work with children's charities. Recognizes students demonstrating resilience and commitment to education.

    About Vida Blue: Born in Mansfield, Louisiana. Baseball and football star at DeSoto High School. Signed by Kansas City A's in 1967, debuted with Oakland A's in 1969. Pitched no-hitter against Minnesota Twins (1970). Won American League MVP and Cy Young Awards in 1971 with 24-8 record and 1.82 ERA. Pitched in World Series annually 1972-1974, started All-Star Games in 1971, 1975, and 1978. Traded to San Francisco Giants (1978), Kansas City Royals (1982), returned to Giants (1985). Retired in 1987 with 209 victories, 143 complete games, 37 shutouts, and 3.26 ERA. Inducted into Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame (1995). Serves as community representative for San Francisco Giants and involved in charitable causes.
