Overview

Variety Kids on the Go! Mobility Program

Geographic Scope: Southern California

Mission: Help kids gain mobility, confidence, freedom, independence and the chance to join in the life of their community

Problem Addressed: The durable medical equipment necessary to give children with disabilities independence is often too expensive for many families, especially those with low household income or competing expenses. Insurance frequently denies devices like adaptive bikes and special needs strollers despite their physical and therapeutic benefits, and wheelchairs can take up to two years to be funded by insurance.

Equipment/Devices Funded:

  • Walkers

  • Wheelchairs

  • Specially-designed adaptive bikes

  • Therapeutic strollers

  • Prosthetic limbs

  • Other adaptive devices for mobility
  • Eligibility: Families with the most need

Target Population: Children with disabilities who want to participate in typical childhood activities (bike rides, beach days, trips to the park) but lack access to necessary adaptive equipment

Languages: Available in English and Spanish (Aplicación en español)
