Summary
The UP Deer Habitat Improvement Grant Program aims to enhance deer habitats in Michigan's Upper Peninsula by fostering collaboration among the DNR, sportsmen's groups, and local communities. This initiative focuses on improving on-the-ground deer habitats, promoting partnerships, and educating the public about the ecological benefits of these efforts. By addressing resource needs and encouraging cooperative projects, the program seeks to ensure sustainable deer populations and habitat preservation.Overview
Program Objective The grant program is designed to foster productive relationships between the DNR, sportsmen's organizations, concerned citizens and other partners that produce deer habitat improvement benefits and educate the public about the importance of the work and the scientific principles involved in it. This initiative is targeted for implementation in the Upper Peninsula. Criteria The broad purpose of this initiative is to develop a collaborative approach to deer habitat improvement on private land ownerships across the U.P.; there are three primary goals and expectations for this initiative. All projects must address these fundamental goals in order to be considered for approved funding: Produce on-the-ground deer habitat (summer and/or winter range) improvements in the Upper Peninsula that address resource needs. Establish and promote partnerships between the DNR, sportsmen’s organizations, and other partners. Showcase these cooperative projects through a coordinated public outreach effort, highlighting the relationship between the DNR and Partners while educating the public on the benefits of habitat improvements made through the grant.Eligibility
