Overview
Union Plus Scholarship
Overview: Since 1991, the Union Plus Scholarship Program, sponsored by the Union Plus Education Foundation, has awarded more than $5.9 million to students of working families. More than 4,200 families have benefited from this commitment to higher education. Awarded annually to AFSCME members and their families.
Award Amount: $500 - $4,000 (one-time cash awards; students may reapply annually)
Geographic Scope: United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Guam, Virgin Islands
Focus Areas: Post-secondary education including college, university, community college, technical or trade schools
Eligibility Requirements
- Current or retiree members of AFSCME (participating union)
- Spouses of member
- Dependent children (including foster children, step-children, and any child for whom the member provides greater than 50% support)
- Must be accepted into an accredited college, university, community college, or recognized technical/trade school at the time award is issued
- Graduate students are now eligible
- U.S. citizens and residents of Puerto Rico, Canada, Guam, and Virgin Islands eligible
- Members do not need to purchase any Union Plus program product or participate in Union Plus programs

3. Applications are judged by a committee of impartial post-secondary educators
4. Awards are one-time cash awards sent to individual winners for study beginning in the fall of the same year
