UMWA-Lorin E. Kerr Scholarship
Program Description: Two scholarships awarded annually to help individuals pursue undergraduate degrees in any field at accredited colleges or universities in the United States or Canada.
Academic Year: 2027-2028
Award Amount: $2,500 per scholarship (two total scholarships awarded)
Payment Schedule: Equal installments at the beginning of each semester (September 2027 and January 2028)
- Who Can Apply: Current members of the UMWA in good standing, their dependents, and their grandchildren
Eligibility
- Field of Study: Any field
- Institution Type: Accredited colleges or universities in the United States or Canada
- Use of Funds: Education expenses only
- Transferability: Non-transferable; will be forfeited if recipient is not in good standing as a student
Award Details
- A preliminary screening committee will select applications for review by an independent scholarship selection committee
- Winners' names will be published in the United Mine Workers Journal
