UMWA-Lorin E. Kerr Scholarship

Program Description: Two scholarships awarded annually to help individuals pursue undergraduate degrees in any field at accredited colleges or universities in the United States or Canada.

Academic Year: 2027-2028

Payment Schedule: Equal installments at the beginning of each semester (September 2027 and January 2028)

Eligibility

• Who Can Apply: Current members of the UMWA in good standing, their dependents, and their grandchildren

Award Details

• Field of Study: Any field
• Institution Type: Accredited colleges or universities in the United States or Canada
• Use of Funds: Education expenses only
• Transferability: Non-transferable; will be forfeited if recipient is not in good standing as a student

Selection Process

• A preliminary screening committee will select applications for review by an independent scholarship selection committee
• Winners' names will be published in the United Mine Workers Journal

   • Evidence of acceptance or enrollment at an accredited college or university
