UGLA Scholarship Program - Community College (Two-Year/Vocational)

Overview: Since 2023, UGLA has partnered with select Los Angeles County community colleges to provide scholarships for students pursuing two-year degrees and vocational education programs. These scholarships are administered directly by the cooperating community colleges.

Geographic Scope: Los Angeles County

Participating Community Colleges:

  • Glendale Community College

  • Pasadena City College
    • Program History

    • 2022: Introduced $500 scholarships for community college students pursuing two-year degrees or vocational certificates
    • 2023: Expanded to Glendale Community College and Pasadena City College with college-administered scholarships
    • 2026: Program continues with both institutions

      Eligibility Requirements

    • Graduating senior from selected Northeast Los Angeles high schools:
    • - Allen Tennenbaum Family Technical High School - Eagle Rock High School - Franklin High School - Highland Park Continuation High School - Lincoln High School - Los Angeles County High School for the Arts - Los Angeles Leadership Academy - PUC eCals - Renaissance Arts Academy - Sotomayor Arts and Sciences Magnet - Woodrow Wilson Senior High School
    • Applied to a Los Angeles County community college
    • Pursuing a two-year degree or vocational certificate
    • Minimum enrollment requirement: 8 units of study in Summer or Fall semester to receive payment
    • Must demonstrate commitment to social justice, with focus on LGBTQ+ community

    About UGLA

    UGLA builds community and establishes support networks for the LGBTQ+ community living in the northeast area of Los Angeles. The scholarship program was inspired by and is in honor of Dr. Virginia Uribe, founder of Project 10.

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Note: These scholarships are administered directly by Glendale Community College and Pasadena City College. Contact those institutions for specific application details and deadlines.

    Application Steps:

    1. Complete online application form
    2. Provide supporting materials:
    - High school transcript of grades and courses in progress
    - Short narrative describing your background, post-college aspirations, and connection to the LGBTQ+ community
    - Narrative describing activities demonstrating your advocacy for social justice issues with focus on LGBTQ+ community
    - List of participation in sports, arts, music, culture, and cultural heritage activities with explanations of importance
    - Letter of recommendation
    - Email from the community college acknowledging receipt of your application and assigning your student ID number

    3. Assemble complete application package with all supporting materials
    4. Email application package to UGLA (submit to: UptownGLA@aol.com)
    5. Proof of enrollment: If selected, must provide proof of enrollment for minimum 8 units in Summer or Fall to receive award payment
