Overview

TV-Series Lab

Status: The Gotham Labs are on hiatus in 2023 and beyond. The program is undergoing reimagining to determine how to continue sharing resources equitably and inclusively with the growing ecosystem of filmmakers and partner organizations.

Overview: Annually selects up to 10 narrative series projects (all in development and written/created by first-time series creators) and provides creative teams with key support through strategy, marketing, and exposure of their work.

Program Structure:

  • Week-long virtual lab in spring

  • Pitching projects at Gotham Week Project Market in September

  • Two convening periods per year
  • Geographic Scope: United States (creators with U.S. base)

Focus Areas: Fiction episodic projects in development for TV and digital platforms

    Eligibility Criteria:

  • Debut or "breakthrough" series creators working independently on fiction episodic projects

  • Series project submitted is not necessarily creator's first series work, but displays bold and innovative talent suggesting significant future accomplishment

  • Series creators who have won or been nominated for significant episodic awards (Primetime Emmys, Golden Globe, Gotham Awards, etc.) for other digital/television episodic works are ineligible

  • Series creators with prominent web series experience judged case-by-case

  • Series creators with prominent TV industry experience should apply directly to Gotham Week instead
  • Past Outcomes: Alumni have gone on to find partners and executive producers, connect with production companies, work in writer's rooms, find representation with top management companies, and have projects acquired by television and streaming companies
