Overview
The Tools of the Trade Scholarship is awarded to help fund the costs of technical college or school required tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The amount to be awarded is up to $2,000.Purpose
With the South Atlantic Region and most parts of the country facing a construction workforce shortage, CMAA-SAC decided the best way to help alleviate the problem was to have a dedicated foundation focused on the success of students striving for trade degrees through the Technical College System.- Enrollment Status: Applicant must be admitted to or enrolled in a TCSG institution at the time of funding award
- Program Eligibility: Must be in a technical college or trade school certificate, diploma, or degree program in one of the following areas: - Air Conditioning Technology - Building and Facilities Maintenance - Cabinetry - Carpentry - Civil Engineering - Construction Management - Drafting/GIS - Electrical Construction and Maintenance - Electronics and Telecommunications - Environmental Engineering Technology - Industrial Systems Technology - Instrumentation Technology - Machine Tool Technology - Masonry - Plumbing - Welding
- Geographic Scope: South Atlantic Chapter region (Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee)
- Membership: Must be a CMAA-SAC Member (note: FREE for students)
Eligibility
- Academic performance: 40%
- Quality of essay on future and scholarship interest: 30%
- Recommendation of college faculty (or other academia recommendation): 30%

How to Apply
Application Process
1. Download the Application: Download the application from the CMAA-SAC website
2. Enrollment Confirmation: Applicant must be enrolled in a technical college or trade school certificate, diploma, or degree program
3. Complete All Sections: All sections of the application must be completed in full and submitted electronically
4. Prepare Required Materials:
- Transcripts (scanned and sent electronically)
- Essay on future goals and scholarship interest (typed)
- College faculty recommendation (scanned and sent electronically)
5. Submission Format:
- Submit one email with all completed sections of the application, preferably in one PDF document
- Subject line should include your last name and school name
- Submit via email to the designated address
- Request proof of electronic delivery
6. Review and Notification:
- The CMAA-SAC Scholarship Foundation Board will review all complete applications and score each applicant based on selection criteria
- Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 30, 2024
- Winners are strongly encouraged to attend the CMAA-SAC Annual Project Achievement Awards Gala on June 12, 2025
- Scholarship checks will be handed over to students at the Awards Gala
- Ensure all sections are signed
- Type essay responses and check spelling/grammar carefully
- Remember that your application will be scanned and disseminated electronically; presentation is important
- Keep a copy of your complete application package and request proof of electronic delivery
- Important: Incomplete applications will not be considered. The application and all associated attachments must be submitted electronically. Hard copies will not be considered.
