Overview

TMRF Environmental Award

Award Amount: Up to $100,000 total, paid at $25,000 per year for four years

Eligibility:

  • High school graduating seniors

  • Must attend school within TTUSD boundary (Truckee High, North Tahoe High, Forest Charter High, Sierra Continuation High School, Cold Stream Alternative, Sugar Bowl Academy, Tahoe Expedition Academy) OR

  • Must be resident of Truckee, unincorporated Placer County around Truckee, and/or North Lake Tahoe (California side only)

  • Public and private school students eligible

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 required

  • Must enroll in 2- or 4-year institution or vocational program in Fall following application year
  • Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or clear vision around ability to significantly improve climate and/or human condition

  • Academic achievement (minimum 3.5 GPA)

  • Financial need and vocational interest considered, but may award based on merit as well

  • Extra-curricular activities, environmental interests, and volunteer efforts

  • Individual interviews (if selected as finalist)
  • Award Focus:

  • Students committed to combatting climate change and/or improving conditions for humanity

  • Recognition of students with activities, successful academics, and clear vision around these issues
  • Process:

  • Applications due annually in Spring

  • Finalists selected by TMRF Scholarship Committee

  • Finalists interviewed individually

  • If winner unable to accept full amount, remaining funds allocated to runners-up

  • Interview Process:

  • Selected finalists participate in individual interviews

  • Finalists provided additional preparation information
  • Award Disbursement:

  • Proof of enrollment required annually

  • Paid directly to recipient or school (per family/school preference)

  • Distributed in Spring following award selection
