TK Foundation: Youth Sailing RFP Grant

The TK Foundation, established in 2002, has committed over $46 million in grants to enhance the maritime experience for disadvantaged youth. Its Youth Sailing RFP seeks nonprofit programs that foster engagement with the ocean, teaching seamanship, leadership, and life skills. With a funding pool of $500,000, grants range from $4,000 to $15,000 annually, supporting innovative programs that align with the foundation's core values of integrity, impact, and hands-on learning.

Grant Philosophy
Since its inception in 2002, The TK Foundation has awarded over $46 million in grants to non-profit organizations and projects to improve the maritime realm and the lives of disadvantaged youth.
The TK Foundation supports nonprofit youth sailing programs that reach motivated disadvantaged youth and offer them an up-close and personal relationship with the ocean, opportunities to challenge themselves in an ocean environment, teach responsible seamanship and stewardship, and help them develop essential life skills.
The TK Foundation is looking for youth sailing programs that do this through a combination of program criteria that aim to:

• Offer an ongoing educational experience:Programmatic elements may include: Instruction, mentoring, and educational field trips
• Promote responsibility:Programmatic elements may include: Internships, or other types of work-related, hands-on experience

Promote leadership skills:Programmatic elements may include: Volunteer opportunities, peer mentorship, or advocacyDisadvantage:Support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds or communities.
Ideal programs should incorporate all four criteria listed above, and should operate in-line with The TK Foundation’s core values: A Hand Up and Not a Hand Out, Enduring Impact, (i.e. lasting results), Innovation, Integrity, and Hands On (i.e. direct involvement between agencies and their clients).
Funding
The TK Foundation has set aside $500,000 USD to be awarded in grants to successful applicants. Grant requests may range from $4,000 - $15,000 per annum. Multiyear grant requests of up to three years will be considered.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must be nonprofit public benefit corporations exempt from federal income taxes under US, UK, Canadian, European, Bahamian, and Bermudian Internal Revenue Codes.Grant funds may be used for:Implementation of a new program
Continuation or expansion of a program, if able to document history of compelling, quantified impact
Organizational capacity building, including social enterprise
Personnel, facility, supplies, equipment, and other direct expenses essential to the project
