The ACS National Awards program is designed to encourage the advancement of chemistry in all its branches, to support research in chemical science and in industry, and to promote the careers of chemists. The Thomas H. Parliment Award for Advances in Flavor Chemistry was established in 2024. The first award will be given in 2026. Purpose To recognize a scientist who has significantly contributed to the advancement of flavor chemistry. The award will consist of $20,000, a medallion, and a certificate. Up to $2,500 for travel expenses to the meeting at which the award will be presented will be reimbursed.

Eligibility

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website. The nominee must have significantly contributed to the advancement of flavor chemistry with emphasis on the aroma aspects. Consideration will be for the identification of compounds that impact perception of flavor, mechanistic aspects of aroma-flavor release, generation, formation and stability of flavor compounds, or analysis techniques – instrumentation used to investigate flavor. Nominees must have demonstrated independence of thought and originality. Criteria would include expository items such as technical publications, patents, awards (corporate or academic), involvement in professional societies (officer, organizer of meetings) invited lecturer. Nomination of chemists from industry, academia or government is encouraged, providing the individual has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the field. The award will be granted in accordance with all approved ACS criteria regarding race, gender, age and sexual orientation.
