Thomas Barbour Scholarships Program

Overview: Established in 1968 to recognize excellence in performing arts students. Named in honor of EAG member, benefactor and actor Thomas Barbour in 2004.

Award Structure: Six annual scholarships are awarded:

  • Five scholarships to students at American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York

  • One scholarship - The George C. Scott Memorial Scholarship for a student studying Theatre Arts at the University of Missouri

  • Additional: The Claire Strakosch Scholarship, currently endowed by the Margaret G. Plumb Irrevocable Trust, is given periodically to students in theatre programs
  • Geographic Scope:

  • American Academy of Dramatic Arts (New York)

  • University of Missouri (Theatre Arts)

  • Other theatre programs (for Claire Strakosch Scholarship)
  • Eligibility:

  • Students enrolled at American Academy of Dramatic Arts, University of Missouri, or eligible theatre programs

  • Contact your school's administrative office for further information
  • Selection Process: Recipients are selected by the faculties of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and University of Missouri

    Funding Source: The Barbour Award was established and endowed by Janet Barbour Carhart, Alison Barbour Fox, and from a portion of the gift left to EAG by Thomas Barbour's estate
