Background The Thomas and Corinne Nyquist Foundation is a family foundation. It was formed in 2004 to provide financial support for local initiatives and programs of nonprofit organizations and groups in New Paltz, NY, and in Roosevelt County, Montana, with emphasis on the communities of Bainville, Culbertson, and Froid. Grants The Nyquist Foundation awards small grants to local nonprofit organizations in the towns of Bainville, Froid and Culbertson, MT and New Paltz, NY annually. Past grant recipients have included the Froid Library to augment their Montana Collection, Historic Huguenot Street to support a series of guided tours focusing on native plants, Culbertson Museum for a facilities upgrade, the Town of Froid for updates to their Community Center, The Mill Brook Preserve to install bog bridges, and the Mohonk Preserve to create new trail markers. Applications must include detailed information on how the money would be spent including written documentation or links to websites showing the items to be purchased and their costs, or written estimates from any contractor providing a service. Grant money must be used for what was stated in the grant application, and within one year of the award. Any unused moneys must be returned.

Applications should be for organizations and events located in New Paltz, NY or eastern Roosevelt County, MT focusing on the communities of Bainville, Culbertson and Froid.If the organization applying for a grant is not wholly contained in one of these communities but serves them, we require documentation of number of people served in one of the designated communities.Applying organization must be a nonprofit, governmental or religious organization or be sponsored by one.If there is a sponsoring nonprofit organization, the application must include a letter from the sponsoring organization regarding its willingness to sponsor the application.The 503(c)1 number or equivalent tax-exempt ID number of the applying or sponsoring organization must be on the application.The foundation will consider applications for new needs from organizations that have been supported previously after an at least one-year hiatus.

Ineligibility

The foundation does not support projects on a multi-year basis.Successful applicants - those awarded a grant - may not apply for a grant the very next year, but may apply again in the future as long as the application is for a different purpose.We do not fund ongoing expenses such as operating expenses. We have occasionally made a one-time grant to cover scholarships for camps, preschools, etc. or a new annual event, but do not wish to fund the same type of scholarship or event again, even after the one year waiting period.
