The Overman Award

Funder: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland

Background: The Overman Scholarship Fund was established in 1978 to honor the memory of Duluthians Ben Overman and his wife Jeanne Horowitz Overman. Since inception, the fund has provided more than $500,000 in scholarships to more than 130 deserving young men and women.

    Eligibility

  • Primary: Current and former members of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland
  • Membership requirement: No defined minimum length of membership; applicant must have been actively involved in the Club
  • GPA requirements: None specified; however, recipients must report grades and finances to continue receiving funds
  • Income requirements: No specific income level requirements, though financial need is considered during award process

- Proof of active Club membership
- Grades/transcript information

3. Submission process:
- Submit all PDF documents to info@bgcnorth.org
- Application deadline: January 15 of each year

4. Review and interview:
- Overman Scholarship Board of Trustees reviews applications
- Selected candidates participate in interview process
- Awards announced in August

5. Renewal (if applicable):
- Recipients in good standing can apply annually
- Use Scholarship Renewal Letter (provided)
- Must report current grades and financial information to continue receiving funds
