Summary

The Jackson Foundation, established by Maria C. Jackson, provides funding for charitable, educational, and welfare-related projects primarily within Oregon. Governed by trustees, it aims to enhance public welfare in Portland and statewide. The Foundation does not support individual grants or private businesses and typically limits funding to one grant per organization annually. It considers projects of broader appeal outside the Portland area, ensuring that its contributions effectively promote community welfare.

Overview

The Jackson Foundation Today Maria C. Jackson survived her husband, both of her sons and her grandson. She lived an active life in Portland until her death at age 93. She bequeathed relatively small amounts to her great grandson and her chauffeur and left the bulk of her estate to three trustees to establish The Jackson Foundation. The Foundation continues today as a permanent fund governed by the following language in her will: The income from the trust shall be distributed by the trustees for use within the State of Oregon for charitable, educational or eleemosynary purposes and for the advancement of public welfare. The trustees shall have wide discretion in the selection of the particular purposes for which said distribution shall be made and shall select beneficiaries as they shall deem to be most appropriate and best calculated to promote the welfare of the public of the City of Portland or the State of Oregon, or both. Jackson Foundation is administered by the Charitable Services Group of U.S. Bank. The Jackson Foundation is a broad purpose charitable fund that responds to requests deemed most appropriate to "promote the welfare of the public of the City of Portland or the State of Oregon, or both."
