The Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support Grant

The Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support Grant is designed to aid mature artists with at least 20 years of experience in painting, sculpture, or printmaking. This grant encourages artists to pursue their creative goals without the pressure of financial stability. Twenty grants of $25,000 are awarded annually, and eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need. Both US and international artists can apply, and previous recipients must wait a year before reapplying.

The Foundation wishes to encourage mature artists who have dedicated their lives to developing their art, regardless of their level of commercial success.
This program was conceived in order to recognize and support the serious, fully-committed artist, and we hope these individuals will consider applying. Twenty grants are awarded each year. The Individual Support Grant may be used in any way an artist determines it will assist their career.
In this program, the following criteria must be met:

• Maturity

Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate that they have been working in a mature phase of their art for at least 20 years. Maturity is based on the level of intellectual, technical, and creative development maintained over this time period. Artists must show that their primary involvement has been with their artistic goals, regardless of other personal or financial responsibilities. Artists must work in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, or printmaking.
Financial Need
In addition to the maturity requirement, eligibility for an Individual Support Grant is determined by the applicant’s current financial need. Each applicant must complete the financial disclosure section in full and must submit the appropriate financial documentation.
Funding
Last year, the Foundation awarded grants of $25,000 each to 20 artists.

Eligibility

These grants are available only to individual painters, sculptors, and printmakers who have worked in a mature phase of art for 20 years or more. In addition to the maturity requirement, eligibility for an Individual Support Grant is determined by the applicant’s current financial need. Each applicant must complete the financial disclosure section in full and must submit the appropriate financial documentation.Artists may apply for both the Individual Support and the Emergency Grant program in the same year. Each program has its own application form and requirements.Applicants who did not receive an award from the Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support Program may reapply every year.The Foundation’s grant programs are open to both US based and international artists. US citizenship or residency is not required.Recipients of this grant must wait one year after receiving their grant before they are eligible to reapply.

Ineligibility

The Gottlieb Foundation does not fund organizations, educational institutions, students, graphic artists, or those working in crafts. The disciplines of photography, film, video, or related forms are not eligible unless the work directly involves, or can be interpreted as, painting or sculpture. The Foundation does not fund exhibitions, installations, or projects of any kind.The Foundation does not consider requests for funding educational purposes.Applicants who have previously received an Individual Support Grant from this Foundation three times or more are no longer eligible to apply.
