The Bargain Box Community Grants

Overview: The Bargain Box Board of Governors donates net proceeds from store sales to qualified Beaufort County charitable agencies in the form of cash grants. In-kind support from donated items may also be provided throughout the year.

Geographic Scope: Beaufort County, South Carolina

Focus Areas: Organizations involved in worthwhile local community activities in the following areas:

Education and youth

Health and safety

Hunger and housing

Recreation

Eligibility Requirements

Organizations must meet ALL of the following criteria:
• 501(c)(3) status and operating in Beaufort County, SC
• Active Board of Directors
• Involvement in community activities in eligible focus areas listed above
• Submit official application with required documentation

Ineligible Applicants

Grants will NOT be made to:
• Private individuals
• National fundraising campaigns
• Organizations with their own business (e.g., thrift store) that compete with The Bargain Box
• Any requests not accompanied by official application and documentation

Award Process

1. Grant Committee reviews and evaluates all requests 2. Committee may conduct site visits and interviews with executive directors 3. Committee researches purpose, needs, and community impact 4. Committee makes recommendations to full Board of Governors at November meeting 5. Full Board approves grants 6. Recipients notified and provided contract to sign 7. Grant recipients must provide year-end report verifying fund use and community impact
