Texas Medal of Arts Original Artwork Commission

Program Description: The Texas Cultural Trust invites artists and creative teams to submit qualifications for a biennial commission to develop a new Texas Medal of Arts. The selected artist or creative team will be invited to create and propose full ideas, concepts, and artwork for the medal.
Background: The Texas Medal of Arts Awards have been presented biennially since 2001, spotlighting Texas leaders and luminaries who have achieved greatness through their creative talents. As the signature fundraising event for TXCT, the awards highlight and promote the power of the arts to enrich children's education and enhance Texas's economy and cultural heritage.

Project Scope:
Selection Process: A selection committee composed of TXCT board leadership, artists, arts advocates, curators, community leaders, arts administrators, and business leaders reviews submissions. Committee evaluates based on artistic and technical merit and strength of past work. Finalists may be invited to interview with the selection committee.

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following materials:
1. Résumé (4-8 pages)
2. Images of Completed Works (4-8 images)
- Submit in JPEG format
- High resolution, no more than 1MB per image
- Label files using format: (LASTNAME)(IMAGE NUMBER).jpg
- Example: Smith01.jpg, Smith02.jpg
3. Annotated Image List
- Correspond to submitted images
- Include: image file names, artist(s) names, artwork titles, mediums, dimensions, commissioning entities
- Brief description (maximum 100 words per image)
4. Statement of Interest (maximum 250 words)
- Outline approach to project
- If selected, what materials might be used
- Do NOT include sketches or fully developed ideas/concepts
5. Professional References
- Contact information for two (2) professional references
6. Online Application Form Responses
- Are you a current or former resident of Texas? (Yes/No)
- Have you created or produced creative objects in Texas for at least 3 years? (Yes/No)
- Do you have experience in public art, craft, sculpture, and/or object fabrication? (Yes/No)
- Submit ONLY materials specified above
- Additional materials will be disregarded
- Late and incomplete submissions will not be considered
- Emailed qualifications will not be accepted
- Must submit via online form
