Team Up For Technology Grant

Funder: Jimmie Johnson Foundation in partnership with Lowe's and Samsung Hope for Children

Program Overview:
A technology grant program that provides schools with comprehensive technology makeovers to enhance K-12 education and expose students to 21st-century learning tools.

Award Amount: $48,000 (includes $30,000 in Samsung technology products)

Program Details:

• Launch Year: 2012 (inaugural program)
• First recipient: Robert Sanders Elementary School, San Jose, California
• Award includes: Samsung technology (projectors, laptops, digital cameras, document cameras) plus additional funding

Eligibility:

• K-12 public schools nationwide
• Schools with demonstrated technology needs
• Open to all U.S. schools (national program)

Application Method:

• Schools nominate themselves or are nominated by parents, teachers, administrators, and children's advocates
• Submission through foundation website or Twitter
• Nominations in first year exceeded 1,500

Semi-Finalist Recognition:

• Selected semi-finalist schools receive a prize kit including:
  • Samsung Digital Camcorder
  • Samsung Laptop
• Schools create a 2-minute video illustrating their technology needs
• Videos featured on jimmiejohnsonfoundation.org

Nomination Methods:

1. Self-nomination: Schools can nominate themselves
2. Third-party nomination: Parents, teachers, administrators, and children's advocates can nominate schools

Multi-Round Selection Process:

Round 1 - Initial Nomination:

• Submit school nomination with description of technology needs
• Address school's student population and technology gaps

Round 2 - Semi-Finalist Selection:

• Semi-finalist schools receive:
  • Samsung Digital Camcorder
  • Samsung Laptop
• Task: Create a 2-minute video illustrating the school's technology needs

Round 3 - Final Winner Selection:

• Video submissions evaluated
• Final winner announced
• $48,000 award granted

• For semi-finalists: 2-minute video showcasing technology gaps and student needs
