Overview
Take Stock in Children Program
Overview: Take Stock in Children (TSIC) breaks the cycle of poverty by identifying high-achieving, low-income public-school students with college potential and offering holistic support including mentorship and scholarships.
Geographic Scope: Hillsborough County, Florida
Target Population: High-achieving, low-income public school students
- Must be in grades 6, 7, 8, or 9
- Must be enrolled in a Hillsborough County Public School
- Must financially qualify (see family income eligibility guidelines)
- Must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0
Eligibility Requirements
- Assigned mentor for academic and personal support
- Opportunity to earn minimum two-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship (long-term goal achieved through years of hard work)
- Semester check-ins with Take Stock in Children staff
- Quarterly grade tracking with intervention if needed
- Support exploring career and college opportunities
Program Benefits
- Sign contract promising to remain crime- and drug-free
- Exhibit good behavior
- Meet with assigned mentor regularly
