Supercharge Washington: Battery Scale-Up Program

A 24-month pilot program designed to turn breakthrough battery and energy-storage ideas into pilot-ready solutions. The program is in development/fundraising phase seeking $1.5M to launch.

Geographic Scope: Pacific Northwest, with focus on Washington State

Focus Areas:

• Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
• Next-generation energy storage technologies
• Grid resilience and stability
• Clean energy innovation

Why It's Needed:

• Rapid population growth straining the grid
• Electrifying transportation increasing energy demand
• AI-powered infrastructure expansion
• Extreme weather and climate threats to communities
• Many promising local battery technologies stalling before deployment

Program Details:

• Duration: 24 months (pilot program)
• Target Companies: 10-12 early-stage companies
• Partnerships: University of Washington Clean Energy Testbeds, tribal nations, utilities, workforce organizations

Support Provided:

• Lab access and technical support for prototyping and validation
• Mentorship from industry experts
• Connections to deployment partners in communities and microgrids
• Commercialization support
• Workforce development assistance
• Fundraising support

Success Metrics:

• 10-12 companies advance from early prototype to pilot-ready stage
• 2-4 demonstration projects launched with tribal, utility, or community partners
• $5M+ in follow-on funding investment secured for participating innovators
• Expanded collaborations among research institutions, manufacturers, and investors
• Increased participation of underrepresented founders and workforce trainees
