Summer Student Fellowship

A summer fellowship program supporting undergraduate and graduate students interested in ophthalmology and eye/vision research. Part of Fight for Sight's mission to support and inspire eye and vision research by funding promising scientists early in their careers.

Geographic Scope: US, Canada, and overseas (investigators at more than 300 leading medical centers, universities and eye research institutes)

Focus Areas: Ophthalmology, vision research, and related sciences

Goal: To support and inspire eye and vision research; provide first exposure to ophthalmology or eye research for many summer students; facilitate career path development in academic ophthalmology and eye/vision research

Eligibility: Summer students (undergraduate and graduate level)

Background: Over 3,000 recipients have received over $21 million in support. For many summer students, an FFS funded research project may be their first exposure to ophthalmology or eye research.

Application Process

• Step 2: Review FFS NANOS Instructions
• Step 3: Submit application through the current grant cycle portal

Review Process: Applications are evaluated by the Scientific Review Committee (SRC) annually. The SRC ranks applications based on: qualifications and accomplishments of applicant, scientific merit of research proposal, clinical relevance of project, and resources/facilities/institutional support. Review system is modeled on NIH peer review methods.
