Summer Scholars Program

Duration: Ten-week mentored research program

Award: Stipend and research opportunity

Eligibility:

• Limited number of first-year dental (DDS) students
• Invited to apply after completion of first year
• Participate during summer after first year

Program Components:

• Mentored research project with faculty
• Access to school's state-of-the-art laboratories and clinics
• Hands-on duties including:
  • Literature searches
  • Specimen preparation
  • Data gathering and analysis
• Production of research paper
• Research abstract submission for poster presentation at American Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research conference
• Earn one credit hour of mentored research study

Outcomes:

• Typically leads to participation in student chapter National Student Research Group
• Opportunity to present at regional and national conferences
• Often become co-authors of journal articles
